Abstract / Excerpt:
This study addresses the problem of automatic photograph restoration. Photo restoration is the process of applying specific filters onto an image as to produce an illusion of consistency. Certain techniques using image alteration software can achieve this effect manually but the efficiency of which is questionable. This study smoothens out the process of restoration by providing a filter which restores the user indicated parts automatically. This filter which the proponents named the Automatic Photo Retoucher takes the damaged pixels and compares them to the surrounding pixels, all the while looking for patterns and inconsistencies. Once pinpointing the inconsistency within the image it will then proceed to fill the damaged area with pixels which are near the proximity of the damaged area. The overall process is only composed of a few points and clicks and can be utilized by even the most inexperienced of photo editors.
