Developing a Spatial Intelligence Game for Children Inspired by Differential Aptitude Test (DAT) using Adobe Flash

Abstract / Excerpt:

The study is motivated to improve the spatial intelligence of a child, 2 to 7 years of age, through a game inspired by the Differential Aptitude Test. Spatial intelligence is one of the nine multiple intelligences by Gardner. The game will be focusing on the spatial intelligence particulary the visual intelligence of the person since the two are closely related. The proponents have chosen the preoperational stage of age bracket of 2 to 7 years of age since, based on Jean Piaget's Cognitive Development Theory, it in on this stage where children begin to think and learn symbolically and learn to use words and pictures to represent objects. Since the game aims to improve the spatial intelligence, the child will be given series of questions; he/she may not be able proceed to a different level unless the first level is completed, thus for a child to be able to move to a higher level, he/she must be able to improve his/her spatial ability by correctly answering all the questions given. Developing visual spatial intelligence gives a person an alternative by looking into different ways. The Spatial Intelligence Test will be integrated with Adobe Flash to create a game.
