Baseline Profile of the Soil Samples of Barangay Baracatan and Barangay Sibulan in Toril District

Abstract / Excerpt:

This study reports on the chemical analysis of soil in the two barangays of Toril District, Davao City. The results of the study were forwarded to the Mines and Geo sciences Bureau (MGB) of Region XI to complete their land profiling of the soil fertility of the said areas. Specifically, the soil samples were taken from different sites in Barangay and Sibulan. These barangays are part of the Sibulan-Sirawan Watershed Area. The parameters included in the profile are concentrations of nitrogen and phosporus, macronutrients (calcium, potassium and magnesium), micro-nutrients (iron, manganese and zinc), pH, cation-exchange capacity and organic matter. The degree of soil fertility was compared against the standards provided by the Bureau of Soils and Water Management. The variability of the chemical profile of the soil in the area was also assessed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Results showed that except for manganese concentration and organic matter content, the soil quality of Baracatan and Sibulan vary significantly in terms of the above mentioned soil fertility indicators.
