Spatial data analysis is gaining popularity in the analysis of geographic information. Since the usual assumption of independence of observations is breached in spatial data, there is a need to tailor analysis that will incorporate contiguity as a main participant in developing models. In this paper, exploratory spatial analysis of population data on 133 selected local government units (LGUs) in parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and ARMM was done . Specific information on total population in 2000 and 2007 was used to derive the simple growth rate per LGU between these censal years. The main objective of the paper is to investigate spatial first and second - order properties of growth rate in the study area . Spatial autocorrelation is of special interest and investigated using three contiguity weights. Further, spatial lag and spatial error models were fitted to investigate the poss ible spatial regression relation of growth rate with income class and land area.
